Saving files; compatible problems

I have downloaded a game and it doesn't work perfectly in the later versions of windows (I have win8), but I didn't notice that until I had played for a while. The savefile does not therefore apply when I use the compatible mode for windows 98 or windows xp PACK 2. I need help with how to solve it so that I don't need to replay the game. Is that possible, and if so, how?

The saving file is a .bin if that helps!

is it a dos or win 95 game? because some of those use 16bit architecture and can't write to NTFS systems, they had a 2.2 gig limit. I play alot of DOS games on my win system, I stuck a old 20 gig drive I got from goodwill in it and formatted it with MS-DOS 6.22 so I can boot to it when I want to play...

DOSbox can be be installed in Windows 7 to run old DOS games. After DOSbox is installed the game itself is installed. It is amazing that DOSbox works as well it does even emulating DOS sound.

I run Falcon 3.0 in DOSBox. Years ago when I bought Falcon 3.0 I found out that it would not run with DOS newer than DOS 6.22. DOS 7.0 that came with Windows 95 did not allow enough conventional RAM for it to run.

RoadRash is an old DOS game I managed to get working with Windows 7 itself. I had to use a batch file to disable Windows Explorer while the game is running. When the game exits Windows Explorer is restarted.
