i just got splinter cell chaos theory and if i play it for about 15 mins the sound becomes scratchy and the characters voices sound really low pitched then when i quit to the desktop it goes into a blue screen error message which says its dumping the physical memory and on the top it says bad_pool_caller.

pc specs
radeon x800gto
onboard sound card
amd athlon xp 2600+
512mb ram

Up your Virtual memory

- Right Click My Computer
- Propertys
- Advanced Tab
- The First Settings Button
- Advanced Tab
- Down Bottom Click Change
- Either have a custom size, 1-2 gb should do (if u have small hdd under 80gb then:
- Set it too "System Managed Size"

well i went into virtual memory and it was set to 1500 mb so i chose let system decide and it seemed to fix it thanks

That is strange because I was sure the default setting was "system managed size". You could have also tried raising it. Many people change this setting because you can realize a "slight" performance increased with a "custom size". When it is set to "system managed size" windows will change the size on the fly (when it is needed & when it is inconvenient). If you choose "custom size" then you choose the size of the swap file, AKA paging file, AKA virtual memory wont resize itself if you choose the same maximum and minimum sizes.

Edit:

I suppose I should also mention that windows will change the size on "custom size" if the initial size is different from the maximum.

well i knew this would happen. i was playing it and the sound went fussy then i quit it to the main menu and it went into a blue screen except this time the blue screen was blank and had no info on it so i restarted it and i got an error signature off windows error report if it means anything:

BCCode : c2 BCP1 : 00000007 BCP2 : 00000CD4 BCP3 : 00000000

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa4ed.dir00\sysdata.xml

and yes i did change the virtual memory myself a while ago.

Only advice I have right now is to update all your drivers. Sound, video, chipset (if needed), etc.

I'm wondering if you have just added any new hardware to an existing configuration? And have you recently installed any new software such as Anti virus etc.?

yes ive just recently got a new x800gto video card. it works fine with every other game and ive tried reinstalling the drivers for it and tried reinstalling the game.

What video card did you have previously? Did you clean your driver files before reloading the new drivers?

If not then remove your drivers then run driver cleaner pro before reinstalling.

i previously had a radeon 9200 se and im sure i removed the drivers correctly. i went into add/ remove programs and clicked on the ati driver uninstall utility which removed all the software for it. although when i was installing the new card you had a choice of 2 different drivers for some reason.

If you noticed the wording of my previous post, It implies that removing your drivers that way does not actually clean everything out. That is why I say, remove your drivers first, then run driver cleaner pro.

Because you already had a Radeon GPU installed it is prob. OK. I figured if you had some Nvidia drivers floating around on your system, then there could be an issue. But just an FYI, un-installing your drivers that way will not remove all the files. That is when you use something like driver cleaner pro to remove the left overs.

i reinstalled the drivers with driver cleaner pro and still didnt fix. i got a blue screen error with the technical info:

BAD_POOL_HEADER

***STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x81E426E0, 0x81E42E88, 0x0AF5009A)

and then the windows error report said:

BCCode : 19 BCP1 : 00000020 BCP2 : 81E426E0 BCP3 : 81E42E88
BCP4 : 0AF5009A OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

i think it has something to do with the virtual memory because when i changed it, it seemed to fix it a bit.

Ive searched the net and other people have the same problem as me and its a glitch in the game but no one has a fix for it. does anyone know how to fix this problem?

In this case, best thing to do I guess it wait for the patch. I personally do not know how to fix this issue.
