SC: Double Agent Single player wont work!

I have re-installed it about eight times, and I cannot get this game to run! every time I try to start the single player mode, it says that "splintercell4.exe has encountered a problem". I've tried updateing/patching it, installed it on different drives, and even tried a "edited" .exe file for it (a noCD patch). I am a die-hard splinter cell fan and would re-install windows if it helped. Has anyone encountered this problem and/or know how to fix it? Or does God just hate me?:(

When I installed it, the game crashed the first time I ran it too. But it asked for a special DLL file. Why they couldn't have ir on the disk is beyond me but I was able to download it easily and just plonked it straight into the game folder. I don't remember the name of it but if this is the case then it should state in the error message what is missing.

its a know problem that splinter cell just has trouble with 8800 series cards there are some fixes or drivers updates that help none that I have tried though but try to google splinter cell 8800gts problems

OK, I downloaded the nvidia BETA driver, and the game will start up, but all the people look like this:

I found the "solution" to this problem on this thread, but the only problem is, I don't have vista. Would a vista driver for my card work on xp? or is that a terribly bad idea?

seems everyone is having this issue its not the game its the card and i think it stems further than just a driver issue. Seems that game is just unplayable on that card unless you were on vista and were able to try the beta driver.
