My assignment was to install widows 98 and windows me on two seprate partitions. I have been working on this project on and off for far to long why the hell wont it work. is there any reason why this shouldent work? I am using the program partition magic along with dos to partition.

I might be wrong, but you might have to add a new OS to the boot manager, so when it boots up it has the new OS you added, if you install 98SE and then XP, XP adds 98 automatically

I can load anyother combination of operating systems but not 98 and me, is there any known compatibility issues?

how do I do make then fat 16?

like I said I did that. about 8 times and every order I can imagine. is it possible that I need a third party boot loader program? but shouldent partition magic ack as one?

darn, this is the first time this forum has let me down, but on the most important question, that sucks.....

I qoute from computerhope

"DUAL BOOTING WINDOWS 98 WITH WINDOWS ME Because both Windows 98 OEM and Windows ME look for pre-existing operating systems, Windows 98 retail must be used. If you do not have a retail version of Windows 98, unfortunately, you will not be able to dual boot Windows 98 with Windows ME.
Below are the steps we would recommend be done to dual boot between Windows 98 retail and Windows ME.
Process of Dual booting Windows 98 with Windows ME:
  1. It is recommended that at least two partitions be created, one partition for Windows 98 and the other for Windows ME. Information about creating partitions can be found on document CH000345. If the partitions need to be deleted, information about deleting a partition can be found on document CH000344.
  2. Once the two partitions have been created, reboot the computer with the windows ME CD in the computer and install Windows ME onto one of the partitions.
  3. Once windows ME has been installed onto the computer, boot to the Windows 98 CD and install Windows 98 onto the alternate partition."

I did that... but thankyou for responding, sorry I lost my temper im just frustrated...but once again I did that...and it wont work and I dont have the oem version

first was to build a computer. so I did that I got older hardware but its ok, I have a 20gig ide hard drive so I am soposed to install, first he said 98 then me onto 2 separate partitions. then I told him it would not work that way so he said to just get them both on the same hard drive one way or onother.
