Screen is blank

Hi

When I start up my laptop (ASUS Eee PC Series), I briefly see:

Press F2 to run setup, press tab to display BIOS

Then my screen goes completely blank. I have only had this problem since Windows ran an automatic update. I never saw this update before (it seemed to be cleaning up my computer..it was deleting files etc.

The laptop is on because the green light stays on.

Any ideas? Thanks

Go into Bios and see if it still sees the harddrive as being connected.

If it shows up, try booting into Windows in Safe Mode. So after the Post screen,
hit F5/F8 and select "Boot in Safe Mode".

Now, it doesn't let me get into BIOS (it did earlier but not now).

When I try to go into Safe Mode (F8), I highlight Safe Mode, hit enter and I get a long list of files like:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
etc
etc

Help! Thanks.
