Screen keeps coming up with "No input" when there is input, might be psu?

Hi,

Ok so last month, I think it was the 5th or 4th I ordered the parts for my mates computer (so I can probably send them back if worse comes to worse as it is within 30 days)
And occasionally (and much more frequently recently) the screen would cut out and only upon turning the computer off and on again would it show a picture.

Sounds to me like it is either

A)Graphics card (7900gt is this means anything as they must suck alot of power?!)
B)The Screen itself

Or C) the 16 pound Power Supply http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=132721

I would also like to point out that the e6400 cpu fan keeps turning on and off, I assumed it was a built in cooling thing, you know when you get fans that monitor the heat and adjust the speed according?!

He is prepared to buy a new psu for it as they are expensive components and we wouldn't want anything to happened to them, however he is not rich.

Any advice on just the whole situation would be highly appreciated!

For starters, I wouldn't be using a £15.99 PSU in a system that includes a 7900GT, although there's no guarantee that this is the source of your problems.

Unfortunately, this could be any of a number of things, your motherboard is another suspect. The fact that your CPU fan is stopping is a concern. Adjusting the fan speed is normal, stopping altogether is not. Either the CPU fan itself is defective, or the it's the motherboard's fan header (you can check the latter by running the CPU fan off one of the other fan headers.)There is a strong possibility that high temperatures are part of your problem. What sort of temperatures are you getting?

Thanks ceewi, I'm actually checking it out tonight and from that it gives me more of an idea of what to look for.

Now that you mention heat/mobo being a possible candidate, we did have quite alot of heat problems near the beginning, in that the mobo heatsink was quite alot hotter than what I am used to seeing, but after sticking a couple of fans in there and seeing no actual problems other than it being pretty hot, that was that!

I believe the Cpu was a bit less than 60 centigrade, I can give the current temperature/situation tonight..

I did have the same problem. My fans would come on for 4 seconds and it acted like it was going to boot, then it shut off. I replaced my motherboard and all is well. You also might want to reseat your vid car, memory stick(s) and make sure all your connectors are secure. Hope some of that helps. Good luck!
 
Current situation

So I checked out the computer and the cpu heat is 32C, the System heat is around 35C and so there is no problem there.

We managed to get Windows to come up briefly but it strangely crashed when the front (Metal) door closed.. sounds like static.

Thanks Jsquier, Do you have any more info on how you fixed it?
Do you think getting a new Mobo is a wise idea?

Motherboards are a finikey thing in my eyes. I've had more problems with them. (Replaced 4 in the past year and a half) The only thing I can say, is check connections. You can disconnect your cdroms, hard drives, floop, whatever is extra and then try and boot, if you continue to have the same problem, I would almost say m/b

What are his complete system specs? If you have a less demanding video card you can test out, it would be worthwhile.

A little more info please. What exactly do you mean it crashed? Same as before, BSOD, etc...

Thanks for the help, I unfortunately don't have a less demanding PCI-express graphics card though, but I will try rebuilding the computer later in the week.

The mobo has the standard on-board graphics, that should be worth a try, only thing is they usually have the male connector on the mobo..

Is odd.. when the front door closes and the (magnetic) connectors touch to hold the door shut, everything freezes! as in it freezes the image, everything stops, how weird is that??!
I have only had 1 computer with static problems in my trabels, but that is the only thing I can rule it down to, it is bloody ood.
There is however, the off and reset button on the inside of the door (by the 3 1/2 inch drives etc) there, so I originaly thought it was hitting that and for whatever reason, the system froze, but it really isn't the case.

A 16 pound PSU? What's in it? Bricks? lol ;)

I know one client has an employee that every time he touches the case he gets a shock and the computer shuts down. He's the only one in the office that is affected. Go figure. I would be tempted to try a new PSU (one that's lighter would be good. hehe)

The guy sweats alot....
I sweat alot usually in the summer cause it's hot I go near the computer, fridge, tv and all other appliances then I turn into
