Screen Resolution

Hi,

I just purchased a new monitor with a screen that measures 10 x 17 viewing area. My question is: how can I set the screen resolution to be greater then 1600 x 900? The icons and text seem a little small for me. I am running Windows XP and have installed all the latest updates. I go into my control panel and select display, then settings, but the highest setting is 1600 x 900.

A strange thing happened earlier today, I turned on my computer and the screen resolution was indeed greater then 1600 x 900. I know this to be true because all my icons were bunched up, not the way I set them earlier. I did not notice exactly what the resolution was, but the icons did look much larger and were easier to read. Also, the aspect ratio looked the same (the icons were square in shape, not rectangular). I came back a while later (did not turn off my computer) and the screen resolution turned back to the original 1600 x900!!! I can not figure this out at all, any help?

Thanks,

Tom

Well, I did find something that seemed to work, I changed the DPI from 96 to 120 in my advanced settings. Is thihs the best way to do this?

Thanks,

Tom

goto the desktop.
right click then properties
then settings tab
use the slider for your res ya want
should be 32 bit

Kestrel0222, it seems that you want a lower resolution, not higher if the text is too small. Right click your desktop, select properties, go to the settings tab and lower the slider in teh screen resolution towards the Left (Less) side. This will then change the resolution. You have to accept the change by clicking on OK, otherwise it will revert back to the old settings
