Screen resolution....

Ok i just bought a CRT due to lack of cash and it works fine not the problem. i changed the screen resolution to a high one which i cant remeber as im on a mac now, weird. so an average Medion (i think thats what its called) flate screen and i only have the option of 2 resolutions, and im running dual monitoer with these so i have the obvious extended desktop. so my question is. is it with the screen you have that changes the resolution or the graphics card? do you know what i mean? does this makes sense? thanks all!!!

A mix of both. Video cards have a max resolution that it can handle(every video card is different in this aspect). You're monitor can only display a resolution that can fit on the screen. I think the max resolution of a 17" monitor is 1280x1024. You're video card may be able to go higher than that but your monitor can't. As an example, I have a 19" LCD monitor and it can only display a max resolution of 1280x1024, but my video card can display a resolution of up to 1600x1200(at least). Now, with CRTs you may have to adjust the settings to make everything fit, but LCDs usually have an auto button you can use to set it to the native resolution.

my CRT maxes at 1280x1024.
with 2 monitors i can get 2560x1024.
just double the width, stretching it to the second monitor.
of course, i believe "dual monitor" is also an option (for my video card at least) and it can run different res. on each monitor.

you change the resolution from inside windows. the monitor won't support super high res. though, so thats why they do the "reverting in xy seconds" or whatever... that way it changes back to the compatible resolution.
99% of video cards support resolutions above that of 1600x1200 (VERY high resolution)
