Screensaver will not activate

Hey, my Vostro 1000 has got a problem, ive no idea how long it has had it, but ive noticed the screen saver will not activate at all. I have no USB devices plugged in, just the laptop running. I have tried ending services, closing stuff, making sure it idled, and the screen saver flicks on for about 1/2 second to a second, then it goes back to the desktop again. Does anybody know what I can do to get the screens aver on? Its highly annoying
 
I wouldn't be too worried about it, but if you really need for some reason, just run the basic processes only. Or maybe a key is stuck, or maybe theres some setting causing it to do this.
 
Im not really too bothered with it, although its bothering me on Irfanview, as I cannot view images in full screen on that, also.
