Will it even allow you to do a full 24 hours? I know it cycles through day and night in a matter of 20 minutes, but not sure if it will let you do a race that actually lasts 24 hours.

I remember Gran Turismo 4 and the 24 hour races Good times!

It actually does let you, in Race Day.
You can choose from 12, 24, 60 minutes, 2, 4, 6, 12, and 24 hours.

I've done it but not as 24 hour real time, whatever default is set at. But it still takes a while, I would often spin in the last few laps and lose most my places though. The one at the very end of the game I won first try though which I was rather stoked with, I wasn't too keen on having to do it again. lol.

but
You could just pause it and take breaks in between, not like in real life they race for 24 hours straight.
