Hey i will end up buying my parts soon and want to be prepared all im asking right now is what type of screwdriver will i need for building my computer? And what other equipment for building it will i need or is the screwdriver all i need

Phillips head IIRC.

you can get a inexpensive computer repair kit and it aill have all the screw drivers you need.

Gonna need it to screw in the video card and possibly the CPU cooler. You may not even need a screwdriver if your case has the clasps that hold on to the video card. But its always a good idea. Just make sure its not magnetic in any way.

i suggest investing in a nice small computer repair kit, their about 20 bucks and include hex drivers too, those are probably the most useful thing i used, for the brass standoffs for the motherboard.

A useful screwdriver is from Aco hardware 6 in one or better yet is ACE hardware 10 in 1. Hex screws, and all the rest. very flexible. does it all.

Are magnetic screwdrivers really dangerous? When I was watching that Newegg TV how to video they suggested using a magnetic screwdriver and said it's too weak to do any real damage to the components.

That being said, I didn't use one.

Also, for a first time builder you might want to get an antistatic wrist strap. I know a lot of people don't use them and just touch the computer case, but building my first rig, I felt much more comfortable with one.

(I didn't check to see if one comes in that repair kit, but I guess it probably does).

I have them but never used for building and did like said if inside. Worth noting though that winter is a biggie. rubbing across the carpet can be magnetic. Barefoot is an option to counteract the problem. not comfortable though. you can build up a deep charge in winter so be careful. ive seen sparks come off touching something. its static electricity.

I used a magnetic screwdriver with no problem. I was very paranoid of touching the case when I was working even though it was in a hardwood floored room with a tile table. Can never be to careful.

As long as your not touching circuitry or parts with the magnetic screwdriver you should be ok. And the magnet is pretty weak. But if in doubt, find a demagnetized screw driver.

Yeah, that helps too. I went to my brother's house to build the computer because he has all wood floors and a nice big wood table.

Winter definitely makes it worse. I shocked myself today just walking from my living room to the kitchen and touching the fridge.

I was just wondering about the magnetic screwdriver because I know there were a few times I wished I had one. I guess those computer kits probably have other cool tools that will help get a screw into hard to reach places, but I had to get all Macgyver a few times and stick tape to the end of the screwdriver so I could get the screw in place. Yeah...
