screwed up system build....

I tried to upgrade my computer with a new processor (while hanging on to socket 939), but I screwed up and bought a "server processor" instead, an AMD Opteron. A friend told me that I could easily resolve this by purchasing a "server motherboard," which I did. I found that I needed some power adapters for the EPS-12 power connectors on the new motherboard. The build went fine, everything seemed to go alright... but it won't turn on... the LED's on the fans won't even flash when I connect the power. Power supply is pretty beefy (at least 500W i think).

My question is... do you think this is salvageable (by Geek Squad, etc) or should I just bite the bullet and purchase a standard mobo/cpu instead?

Thanks--
Andrew

Opterons work with almost any socket 939 mobotherboard, regardless of them being a server based or not. I say this because im runnign an opteron on an average skt 939 board

You'r friend is almost as bad as my spelling

Your new computer may not start because you may have some stand-off's touching the case, I know this has been the case for me and a few other people... Check to see if you don't have too many, only use what you need.
