SD Card Solution

My dad is a bear hunter and needs something to read the SD cards in the trail cameras so that they can tell what they are tracking. (bear with cubs, wolves= trouble for the hunting dogs.) I don't really know what specific piece of tech needs, but he wants a screen that's bigger than that of a digital camera so that he can see the time-stamp. He seems pretty set on a cheap laptop, but I was wondering if there would be a better solution. I think he would spend around 50-100 dollars. Let me know if there are better solutions out there. The only requirements that he has voiced are:
1. Must read SD cards
2. Large display
3. The cheaper the better
 
I would go the digital picture frame route. You can find pretty good ones for under $100 these days and some will run off of batteries, too...
