Seagate External 80GB HD stopped working...

Last night it just stopped working for some reason...

The adapter light is green, the hard drive turns on, but it just popped a error: Unknown Device. After reconnecting the hard drive this time it didn't show the message, but still didn't work...

I saved a load of music and other multimedia files, that I HEAVILY invested my time in.

I would be much appreciated if someone found me the right solution.

Thanks.

the next time try not to buy seagate hard disk, i was a former staff in seagate and i know all the stuff, for me i dont use and dont like to purchase seagate hard disk. think about it my friend

I would try plugging it into another system as a slave drive and extract the data (if possible) that way.

Good to know for the future.

I beleive Seagate has really gone down hill, as many other drives have... As mentioned, try taking it out of the enclosure and using it internally. Maybe just the enclosure/USB to IDE converter died.

Western Digital is really dominating the Hard Drive business along with Maxtor, but I have never used a Seagate hard drive, I have always used Western Digital. I have never had a problem with Hard Drive failure.

Thanks for the honest advice.

Yup you were right, it works on my desktop just fine. Going to buy another external hard drive and transfer them there.

Thanks, my external hard drive broke within a year or so

Thank you everyone.
