So just got a 1tb external... Just have a few questions.

1... It came with this dashboard software which I didnt install cause I dont like installing things needlessly... I can see and use it in my computer which is exactly what I want. So do I really need it?

2... How do I turn it off safely... I can just pull the usb out and its fine but Im worried about pulling the power cord out that it might corrupt my data? So tips here please?

3... Is there anyway to open it up and use the drive in my computer normally? I dont want to do this at this stage but in the future you never know lol.

You don't need the dashboard, treat the external as you would a drive installed in your computer.

To be safe, you should use the "Safely eject USB device" option before disconnecting. Mostly what that does is ensure that all cached writes have been written to the disk.

Inside that case is an ordinary HDD so, yes, you could open the enclosure, remove the drive and install it in your computer.

Im experiencing problems with the dashboard software with the Seagate device I got today. I want to use it as a storage device through windows but when I click on it in My Computer it always launches the dashboard wizard. I know I can right-click,open but wondering if there is a way around it? So when I click on it in My Computer it goes through to the folder instead of the dashboard problem.

Delete the software or reformat the HDD
