Seagate to PS3

I've recently purchased a 500gb Seagate external hard drive to store the usual films, photos, music files on - but it's main purpose was to play blu-ray films on the PS3.

When using a memory stick, my PS3 picks it up in the video section as 'USB Device', however when I plug the Seagate in - nothing is found.

I've googled this and people are suggesting reformatting the external hard drive with fat32format.exe, but then others are saying not to. Can anyone shed some light on this issue and help me locate my Seagate through my PS3?

Thanks.

its because seagate uses the plug and play software niehter ps3 or 360 usei hade the same prob with my maxtor (seagate offshoot) hd

The PS3 will not recognize a NTFS formatted drive as far as i know, try formatting in FAT32 and see if that works(make sure the drive is empty though, formatting erases everything).

Are you able to point me in the direction of a guide, or perhaps give me a few steps on how to format in FAT32? I really don't have a clue!

definetley needs formatting to FAT32, as ps3 only recognises FAT32 storage....

Dont use windows to format it to FAT32 though, as it will only do something like 32gb of it, get some program to do it, should work after being formatted to FAT32 (Y) :)
