I have alot of mp3's roughly 600 gigs worth no lie.
Each in there own folders and sub- folders. Example they are sorted by genre then artist then album then the mp3 file is shown.
Anyways My problem is this I cant Delete, Move or rename any part of the Folder or sub folders without first moving the mp3.Then turning computer off then on again. At this time I can delete the folder.
I get an error message saying file in use or sometimes --disk write protected.
I have taken ownership of the files and the drives and this has not helped either. Funny thing is I dont have any programs running except for basics (helps boot time that way).
Any ideas any one?
P.s If I copy them from the drive to another the problem persists.
Should Also state didnt have this problem till I loaded xp. Yes it was on a ntfs file as well before the load.

Try like 40,621 songs in 46,641 folders on my 250 gig hard drive. They use 201 gigs of that one alone.

Not to drift away from what i was looking for but hell i am 65 and have moved c.d's, music dvd's (just recently), cassettes, 45's, and many vinyl albums (remember them ) to my comp.
Yes it is an extensive collection and yes once again they were purchased. Not in one day but over my lifetime. I have alot of 'music' by artist's many of you probably never heard of.
I at one time worked for RCA well before retirement but only on track editing and managing. Ever see the story bout the King or Patsy Cline my job interacted with people like that on the set.
I am drifting here but the real point here it is very legal copies from the original purchased product whether they made it big or not most didn't.
What is so hard about comprehending almost 600 gigs of music.
Especially since the industry was were I worked.
I ran my problem through several other guys I worked there and they had no answers thought someone here may have one.

As far as deleting or moving them while in safe mode it is a no-go situation as well.
I can only delete or move at the root then reboot to delete the empty folders. The new file I create acts the same way.
Funny thing is I wasnt having this problem till I added an internal 300 gig hard drive to my system and an external same size. But even with it disabled (meaning completely off machine drivers and all ) I still remain with the prob.
Anyone with any other ideas? I'd like to just finish sorting my collection without the hassle's.

If safe mode didnt work, Im not sure what else might. You could check your administrative privelages, is your account set to administratior, or can you login as one? Try it that way. Good luck.

Yes I am administer and full priviledges. Yes i own the files tried ( took control of all of them even though they were already assigned o me) it still no work. I dont have anything running program wise but bae essentials. Highly stumped.
