So, I have a few questions I was hoping you guys would be able to answer;

1. On the Thor v2 case, there are fan controllers on the front panel. I watched a few videos on the case itself, and couldn't decide if the fans female 3 prongs were made to plug into those male 3 prongs that come off the front panel? Do they just not go to the motherboard? If someone could clear this up, I would be so happy.

2. So for the gtx 770, there were a few choices, on brands I didn't know much about;
Zotac: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500301
PNY: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133495

Both of which are $20 less than the gigabyte, and I'm not sure if $20 is worth the gigabyte brand + an extra fan over these two cards.

3. Answered.

4. For mobo choice, I basically took a shot in the dark. I'm never going to use 3 "3 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots" so I'm not sure if there is a better choice out there or what.

Any help or time given here is appreciated, thanks.

This build will work but I'd change some parts.

Firstly, I presume this is for gaming? If so, then you might consider replacing the i7 4770K with an i5 4670K. Same performance in games, but it's cheaper. You could then perhaps get a GTX 780 instead of a 770. Just a thought. :good: If not then a 770 is definitely good enough.

i5 4670K: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899
GTX 780: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130917

Regarding your question about Zotac and PNY, both are decent brands and will be fine, so you can probably save your $20 and be OK. Personally, I would probably still buy the Gigabyte, but if you need to save money you can get the Zotac. The 780 I've suggested is an EVGA one which is a popular brand for NVIDIA.

You want 1600MHz or (ideally) 1866MHz RAM. Look at RipJaws-X 1866MHz. There's an 8GB kit (2x4GB) which you can buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

I'd get a nicer motherboard too. Sure, the ASRock will be fine, but I'd take a look at something like the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H or UD4H instead. Better brand and probably better for overclocking (should you decide to overclock): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128617

The case looks OK but is kind of expensive for a Rosewill. Unless you love that case and nothing else will do, I'd save $20 and get an NZXT Phantom in white for $120. It looks cool and it's NZXT, so likely higher quality and better-built than the Rosewill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146067

SSD - look at the Samsung 840 series. Go for 128GB or 256GB depending on what your budget allows. The 840s are some of the fastest SATA SSDs out there right now, certainly a lot quicker than the SSDNow series from Kingston. If you want a fast Kingston drive, like at their HyperX line instead, but I'd be tempted to go with Samsung: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247

Not a great fan of Toshiba hard disks. Seagate is a much better brand and their 2TB offering is a actually little cheaper than Toshiba's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148834

Ironic you wrote the same thing as someone else haha, so I'll give you the same reply.

"While I totally agree on the 770 to 780, I just can't bring myself to do it. I got the i7 at a bargain price, otherwise I would have just gotten an i5. So in short, for me 770 to 780 isn't worth the $150, because it's already hurting my wallet too much as it is."

Gotcha, I'll stick with the Gigabyte. The mo fans, the mo betta hahaha

Good catch, I thought those were 1600. Now to go up to 1866 do I have to do anything with the mobo or will it do it automatically? This subject has always been kinda blurry for me. (edited it in)

Is this the same mobo? I noticed it was a different color, but they looked the same, so I figured I would ask just to be safe. http://www.microcenter.com/product/414782/GA-Z87X-UD3H_Socket_LGA_1150_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

For the case, my friend has had it and I always thought it was ugly, plus he's had it, so that makes me want to not get it. I think the Rosewill is great looking, but if anyone else thinks they have something for cheaper or a little more that isn't that NZXT I'm open to looking at it. I'm going to be picking up some of this from a microcenter near me, so I'm sure I'll end up looking around there for something discounted.

I agree on the Samsung ssd, I have an F3 and have had 0 problems, but for whatever reason it wasn't showing $89.99 yesterday? Something with cookies maybe? On pcpartpicker it was showing 89 too, but when I clicked the link it was like $120? Whatever, fixed now :) Good catch. (edited in)

Good catch again, I think I trust WD more so than Toshiba too. (edited it in)

Yeah the board I linked to is the UD4H, which is red. The one you're looking at the UD3H, which is blue. Both are great boards and I'd pay the extra $20 for the Gigabyte. Gigabyte are a better brand in my opinion - ASRock tend to be 'cheaper' if you get what I mean.

Case is personal taste I guess. Not a fan of the Rosewill but if you like it, go ahead and buy it. There are other options too besides NZXT. How about Corsair?

Corsair 500R White: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139010
Corsair 500R Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139009
Corsair C70 Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139013
Corsair C70 White: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139014

These are a bit more but you may/may not be interested.

Corsair 650D: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139006
Corsair 750D: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139024
Corsair 600T White: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139005
Corsair 600T Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139007

Or there's always Fractal Design.

Define R4 Black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352021
Define R4 Grey: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352023

Those are a few other options. There's loads of other brands too to look at. :)

Maybe the Samsung SSD is on sale? Not sure. If it is, grab it whilst you can!

I gotcha, I'll probably end up going with the Gigabyte.

Yeahhhhh, I understand. Isn't it like Neweggs value brand? I think I remember hearing that. I was so set on that case too, and now you're doing this to me, haha. You're right though, a lot of these are good looking, along with not being Rosewill. I definitely want an atx full.. I'm seriously considering this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...mputer+Cases+-+ATX+Form)-_-Corsair-_-11139024

But then my cable management would have to be perfect or I'd be embarrased..
But the thor even had a little indent for my DAC.. Decisions Decisions.. I'll have to look around some more.

Do you know anything about my first question?

I don't really know a lot about the Thor so I'm going to take a guess. The chances are the fans it come with either just plug directly into your motherboard via a 3-pin(?) connection or straight into your power supply via the molex plugs. If you plug them into your motherboard, you can alter the fan speed, but if you plug them into molex they run at 100% all the time.

And you're right, Rosewill is Newegg's 'brand'.

Yeah all the fan leads were female 3 prong, but then going to the panel are male 3 prong as well as two molex, I'm assuming that's for the fan power (there are fan speed controllers on the panel)? In the video she said, "Powers the front panel in general." What does that even mean? The Newegg video explaining it was a bit confusing imo.

EDIT: Anyone who has anything to add please feel free. I'm open to any type of suggestion. Still kinda confused on the Thor V2 thing, but I think I kinda answered my own question above. Any confirmation would be great. Also, Spirit, thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

Change your PSU to Seasonic/Seasonic made. With that kind of investment you've made go for better PSU to protect your investment.

If you like Corsair then get the Corsair TX 750 V2. Be sure it's a V2 as it is Seasonic made.

By the way, very good list other than the PSU. :)

Thanks for the input. Are you saying that if you were me, you would prefer having something with Seasonic quality with this type of investment? Assuming this is what you're talking about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 it's $30 more. I know I shouldn't skimp on power supply, but I figured Corsair was a good brand, and 750 was plenty. I went onto Thermaletake's power supply calculator just to say and it's saying at peak I'm only going to be using ~500watts. Do you still think I need to spend this extra $30?

Also, I was considering just buying an aftermarket cooler seeing as how haswell runs hot. I probably won't be doing any serious overclocking, but I would like to teach myself how to overclock with this setup, even if it's just a few clicks up from stock. Would this do? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

I've used a couple Rosewill cases and have been thoroughly impressed. Specifically the Rosewill Blackhawk. I think they're a great value and have liked the 2 that I've used. I'm not totally up to date with costs and what's available now but I think a Rosewill case is a pretty solid buy.

Now to counter that, I love my Phantom 410 and I think you'd be really happy with a full sized Phantom as well. :D My case is still my favorite one that I've worked with, out of probably 8 different cases.

Also the 212 is a good cooler. I have one and like it. :good:

I'm glad to hear more good things about the brand. I think I'm going to go with the Rosewill. Tons of fans, it has FINS, plus it's a bit cheaper. I appreciate the input.

The Phantom will be in mind, you guys keep talking it up, so it has to be good.

Nice. I saw the million reviews, figured I couldn't go wrong.

Scumbag me, asking questions without googling first, to answer myself; "When you connect the fans you should put the back/top fans into one group (A1-A3) and front/side into one group (B1-B3) for best fan speed control, airflow and cooling." So yeah, fans plug into fan controller, don't have to go to the mobo.

What you picked is good enough and rated tier three which is decent enough but on the edge of the limit. What I picked is tier two (better) which is made with better components and more stable. I think that $30 difference is worth it.

Mine's tier two though 520 watts. It saved my system twice already, once from power outage and once from human error. Any sign of trouble it snaps off, CLICK!

Alright, I'll go with the Cx then.

Well, I've got it all figured out, what I'm buying at Newegg and what I'm buying at Microcenter. Again, I appreciate all the input, and think I'm going to be really happy with this build. I plan to keep checking up on this post until this weekend, when I run out to Microcenter. If anyone else has anything to say, please feel free.

Planning to educate myself on xmp profiles and overclocking ram for now.
