second cpu upgrade question (different issue)

ok another cpu upgrade issue

i built this computer

ASUS striker 2 extreme

intel C2D e8500

i want to replace that e8500 with a

Q9550S C2Q

do i need to do anything before i put the chip in? like bios wise or preperation wise?

Likely you are going to need to update the BIOS. I would update the BIOS before putting the new processor in. But you can try to see if the new quad-core processor works without flashing the BIOS.

I think this is the website where you can download the new BIOS you need. Verify and make sure your motherboard model is the correct one at the website. If you try to install the wrong BIOS it can destroy your motherboard.

what about changing graphics cards?
I don't think that it matters. I recently switched from a Core2 Duo E8400 to a Core2 Quad Q9650, and I didn't have to do anything with my integrated Geforce 9300. The only weird thing that happened to me was that on the first boot into Windows XP, my system only recognized 768mb of my 2gb of RAM. It didn't do this with my C2D. Either way, after I rebooted, it was fine. I still have no idea why it did that. :)
