Second HD

I am sure this is a repetitive request, but filtering through search results is very time consuming, I get off track. So, please excuse my laziness.

My uncle bought a brand new computer, His old machine took a hit during a thunder storm. It does not turn on. We would like to take out the old HD and place it in the new machine, either to copy it onto new HD or use both drives. which ever is the best idea. Any advice? Any advantages to having 2 HDs. The new HD is 160 gigabytes, old one is 20.

Now, how do we do it after plugging in the wires? Can some one layout the sequence of adding the old HD, copying from old HD to new HD? Both HD operate with Windows XP.

Thank you for reading this, and responding,
TGF

1st i recommend using the new HDD as Primary Master and run OS on it
because it's faster
2nd you can do this by unplugging the old HDD and plugging the new one
there are 2 IDE ports in your motherboard
IDE1 IDE2
make sure you plug the master drive cable into IDE1
set the jumper and install a new OS
the old OS on the 160 won't work with the new computer you're gonna face problems

use the new drive for os it should be set to master by default ,take your old 20gb drive and and set the jumper on the back to slave install os on the 160hdd when you have finished that you will see both hdds under my computer doulbe click the 20gb hdd and drag across anything you want to keep of it then format it
