Second SATA drive

Recently I made the switch from IDE drives to SATA drives. With my IDE setup I had two HD one with the OS and programs and the other one "slave" with my other files.

I'm having difficulties trying to recreate this setup with my two SATA drives. So far I have only been able to install one SATA drive which is running this computer. When I try to hook up the second drive my MoBo says that it cannot find any HD and it won't boot up.

I'm a newbie when it comes to computer building so I'm I missing something here that I was supposed to do?? Any help would be appreciated.

My hardware:

1x Segate SATA drive 300Gb HD
1x Maxton SATA drive 350Gb HD
1x Asus A8V Deluxe MoBo

Don't reboot the computer, just hook the drive up and see what you get. May need to change the boot sequence in your BIOS.

Sound like you just need to go into your bios and set your OS Harddrive as first in your boot order, are you sure you have your OS harddrive pluged into Sata port 1

i agrre with heyman421 check the mobo book and see weather it supports sata11 if not change the jumper on the new hdd to sata1 speed

Yeah my MoBo is a bit old and does not support the full 3.0Gb speed of the SATA just half that speed. However, I did setup the jumpers to make them run at half speed.

As for the boot order when the drives are both hooked up sometimes the MoBo won't see them. Or if it does it won't make a difference. Yes the HD with the OS is hooked up to SATA port 1. Is my MoBo too old? Is there something wrong with the second HD I want to hook up?

You don't reckon he has to do a BIOS update, do you?
