I started watching bits of this documentary, it's about game addiction, mainly WoW and EQ. From what I've watched so far, I'm getting pissed off at it, since they're painting the picture that most/all gamers that play WoW are addicts, and I think at least everyone they interviewed, all their lives have changed drastically, for the worst, or have fallen apart. They mention that they were diagnosed with depression, they lost their jobs, as well as their homes and stuff, ruined relationships, and even contemplated suicide, and checked in to gaming addiction rehab. I can balance playing WoW, holding down several jobs, as well as a social life, and I'm just a kid, so the people they've "selected" for this, obviously can't handle an addiction, and it happens to be WoW, and maybe their stories are true, but I didn't see a lot of interviews on people who can actually handle a game.

Well its just like anything else, just as some people can drink alcohol responsibly while others just abuse it, same with lots of other things, video games included.

I'm watching this as I post here, and I love how they showed two guys that knew each other, both played WoW, one of them quit and turned his life around, and is doing great and has no regrets, then the other guy who continued playing WoW, lost his job, gained weight and envies the other guy. What are they trying to say?

One of the gamers added a very good point at the end, I just didn't like how they said things during the documentary, but that's how it is with some documentaries.

People are addicted to drugs and alcohol and smoking and tons of other stuff. Drug and alcohol addictions can lead to weight gain and lost jobs but they also damage your body.

wow gamer you seem extremely defensive about this...the first step is always admitting you have a problem, buddy.

:P

I think I'll watch it tomorrow.

Well I can't say I never had a game addiction because I have when I first got my 360 and gears of war I used to play it 16 hours a day for the first 6 months. Another game I was addicted to was cod4 I reached 10Th prestige in 2 weeks. Now I haven't cut my 360 on in two months I just don't feel like playing anymore or do I have time with 2 Jobs plus CF lol. They probably picked the people in the worst condition to interview they don't care about the people that can have a game addiction and balance the rest of there life at the same time of course nobody would probably watch it if they did.

I do find it amusing at the amount of people getting defensive on their hours ^-^

Personally I love gamers...I don't think I have ever ran into a gamer IRL that was a total douche bag....I get stuck in a room with a gamer and its non stop talking and laughs.

Though to be fair I can't handle MMO type RPGs...so I don't play them. I can't control myself so its a good way to avoid issues. Don't get me wrong though I never allow my RL to be effected...but I do have a nasty tendency when it comes to mmo.

No, I'm just passionate about things I love. I'm not addicted to WoW, or any other game for that matter, I just play them. I can also balance my life better than the people they've interviewed. I get defensive with topics like this, as well as others, like censorship and stuff. I also run a gaming business, so I'm allowed to be defensive for this topic, lol.

the media loves to make video games seem evil.

media sensationalizes everything. Playing a game too much is just like watching TV too much, but alot of people still think that technology is evil

hmmm it would appear that i can't watch it in the UK  . Can't find anywhere else that shows it either

Aggh, that "lol" at the end ruined the whole paragraph, you sounded so mad and serious! hehe

On topic, I'm just glad I haven't got addicted to any games, and I'm a heavy gamer alright.

I show Compassion for the things I enjoy. I was being serious, but I wasn't mad, sure I was annoyed at the way the documentary was spun, but that's what happens.

And would you say you're 'addicted' to playing/learning things on the guitar? I'd say it's a little different than someone who plays WoW or a game for that matter. One of the guys in the documentary, who could balance WoW, work, his wife having twins, and a social life, made a good point at the end. He said playing WoW is no different than someone going to the bar and drinking with friends, or restoring a car in their garage, we're gamers, it's what we do.
