Security Essentials decided not valid XP ?

I installed Security Essentials last year and have kept it up to date with upgrades. Today Security Essentials popped up a little box in the corner, when it was opened it said: Windows did not pass genuine validation. Security Essentials has been disabled. Click Resolve and get genuine windows. We clicked Resolve but it did not do it. Have you seen this before? What is to be done? Thankyou.

This is the same copy that came on the computer and was recognized by Secruity Essentials when I installed SE last year.

Did you install some hardware like video card or make a change. might have to call Microsoft and explain. Windows will detect changes in the system like motherboard or video card. Ive done before. they issued a new key through email.

Wifey installed a Harry Potter game for the little one, I can't think of anything other than that.
Is it easy to get them on the phone?

been a while since making change. It was related to hardware only. Not software. Was not bad, call. results could be good. Something different happened. Would not be with a HD. Always been related to Video card or motherboard. Call and report back.

i say something different happened.

i dont think software would affect it, you can get copies of windows that pass most validations but if microsoft sneak in one of the validation updates it will find pick up on it

You also may be infected as I've seen infections do this before. Please download, update, and run malwarebytes and post its logfile. I will post further instructions later as I'm at work right now.
