Hi everyone,

Sorry to post this as there's probably already been loads of threads about it, but I'm not great with computers and I have no idea how to get rid of this Security Tool. I've tried downloading the things from a couple of sites to get rid of it, but they won't download. I'm on windows vista.

Please help!

Thanks

Please read the sticky in the security section where you posted and follow the instructions. repost the results here. they will get back with ya.

If you are looking for any anti-virus so I would recommend kasperksy, but if you need some network security when I put router between your internet connection and computer.

I've followed all the instructions on that post, but any of the files I download won't run. Each time I click run, an error message from Security Tool pops up and doesn't let it run :(

im not the tech on this subject but have a suggestion for now until john can intervene. can you start up in safe mode and run any programs like the hijack program. Eventually you will have to start up normal again. then do it again i think. its a start.

I'm at work right now but will post instructions later this afternoon when I get home. Can't post specific instructions from my blackberry.

Thanks for all the replies.

I tried to run the things I downloaded in safe mode but that wouldn't work either, an error message said it wasn't recommended in safe mode :(

If you have malwarebytes downloaded, installed and updated then boot to safe mode and run it, disregard the message you are getting about not recommended. If you still can't run it then go here and download rkilll.scr and run it so it will temporarily disable any active infections that will allow you to run malwarebytes.

http://www.technibble.com/rkill-repair-tool-of-the-week/

It's the third link under where it says "downloads". Do not reboot your machine after running rkill as it will reactivate the infections.

After running malware please follow this procedure, disregard downloading malwarebytes as you already have it.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Ok, I've tried in safe mode to run the things I downloaded, but I can't get an internet connection in safe mode and so it doesn't find any updates! So then because it can't find the updates, it won't run :(
