hi everyone
i have the internet connection through ethernet. in my local area network properties i have disabled the' file and printer sharing for microsoft network. I don't use any internet connection firewall.

in this case, can anyone access my computer on the LAN? should i use the firewall?

use of firewall

of course you should use a firewall, and a virus-scanner as well, because first there are further (system-) shares, which are invisible, but well-known by their name. And secondly a firewall also blocks many other things, like trojans or so. And finally the firewall is able to hide your LAN against views from outside. cu

Shared drives/partitions/folders on your system ... disabled in W2K3 by default (i thin) but active in other Windows OSes.

can I use windows firewall?
You can but it doesnt mean you should. Something like ZoneAlarm (free) would be a better route
