Seems Easy Enough

I'm interested in buying a new PSU that is powerful enough to run a $170-$225 graphics card. However, I do not know pretty much anything about them. I have been looking at this instructional webpage and it seems pretty easy (link)
First question, is this basically how you install a PSU? Has it changed at all?
Second, How much power will I need for that strength graphics card?
Third, and I noticed you had to unplug the hard drive, will this result in clearing the hard drive?
Fourth, Which type of PSU do I need for my computer (what will work with my computer)

Here's my computer specs: (Objects with a * next to them are parts that did not come with the computer)

-Dell Dimension 4700 PC
-SATA 250GB hard drive*
-1.5 GB of DDR2 RAM* (originally came with 512)
-PCI-E (2 PCI-E slots, one is taken up by a piece of hardware I am not familiar with) motherboard
-Intel P4 2.80 GHz processor
-Intel Integrated Graphics
-CD Burner that came with the computer
-Sony DVD Burner*
-Windows XP Home

Power Supply is really easy to fit! :P

How much power? It all depends on the graphics card you plan on getting...

Make sure you turn your computer off then take your old PSU out and then put the new one, taking the cable out of your hard drive will no erase anything, nope. :)

I was thinking of this card link

I mainly play MMORPGS (rarely shooters) And just need a card that'll take games like EQ2 and Guild Wars Nightfall on acceptable settings with none, or a low amount of lag.
 
get a 7600 gt instead, get a forton 400 watt or the nmedia 500 watt psu is really good i have one myself

You can get a 7900GS for that price, which would be a much better choice. Do you have a budget for the power supply?
 
Hey! remember, she has a dell. She may have to get a PC Power and Cooling PSU that they make for Dell video upgrades.

ahh...depending on how its designed, she 'may' have to buy one from dell at a ripoff price for it to fit properly.

went threw this trouble when the psu blew in an HP we had a long while back. could either buy a $70 80-watt psu from hp, or buy a $15 250-watt psu from circuit city and make it fit (only problem was the fan and cord outlet weren't standard in the hp psu). we took the cheaper way out and all was fine :P
