? Self Destructing Media Files ?

Is it possible to ad something to a media file that will stop it from working after a certain amount of time. (I don't want a dvd that self destructs). Maybe a script that works with the file and upon downloading, the file activates and only remains active for 5 days. And perhaps a seperate activation for burning the file, that only allows it to play for two days.

Everything would be legal and set up throught the film companies.

Any info would be great! Thank you.

Thats pretty much what Digital Rights Management (DRM) is, it allows a certain media file to only allow it to be burned a certain number of times, or only be usable for 24 hours. Im not sure how to do this though, try google.

But what would stop someone placing it in a recording software, and then exporting it as a different file?

well, after reading up on DRM, it blocks those programs on the computer from running while the media is, and what is to stop somebody from doing that with a movie from blockbuster?

DRM requires cooperative software or firmware. There will always be a way around it, though there may be some degradation of media quality depending on the specific workaround.
