Sell my ddr4 ram for slower ram good idea?

I currently have 16gb of ram, but it is not enough, i use virtual-box so my ram hits 16gb quite often,

I have 2 sticks of 8gb for total of 16gb
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820233752

I am thinking of selling these 2 sticks, i could probably get 140 for both of them

after i sell them, im thinking of getting 2 sticks of 16gb ram for total of 32gb ram
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ...9.2081504323.1501498616-2128509649.1501364256

but i noticed the sticks are a little bit slower in speed, but i will have 32 gb of ram!

is my plan a good idea?

or should i not sell and keep my 2 sticks of 8gb
and just buy that 1 stick of 16gb

am i able to mix those 2 types of ram?

i could buy another of the same type of corsair ram but they only have 8gb sticks and it is 90 dollars! for only 8gb ram , so expensive!

what should i do, i really need more ram,

is that 16gb stick good?

help!

Mix matching RAM is generally a bad idea and can lead to a lot of crashes. Especially if your motherboard is running it in multichannel mode.

The speed difference in the RAM from DDI 4 2133 to 2400 may not make a huge difference. But, you should check to be sure your motherboard actually supports 16Gb sticks and 32Gb total. Some don't.

How do i know if my mother is running multichannel,

In my ram sticks that i currently own it says:
Multi-channel Kit - Dual Channel Kit

In the 16gb stick that i want to buy it says:
nothing about channels

in the motherboard specs it says something about
quad channel

what is this channel stuff

My motherboard supports 16gb sticks, for a total of 128gb

I have a msi x99a sli plus, in the specs it says

Code:
Memory

Number of Memory Slots
    8×288pin

Memory Standard
    DDR4 3333*(*OC)/ 3110*/ 3000*/ 2750*/ 2666*/ 2600*/ 2400*/ 2200*/ 2133

Maximum Memory Supported
    128GB

Channel Supported
    Quad Channel

ddr4 ram is crazy expensive, its making me angry, and usually i am not an angry person

That's a nice board. I almost bought into the 2011 platform, but I couldn't see spending the money on a 2011 CPU that was inferior to what I have now. And I only payed about $180 for my CPU on eBay.

You board supports a maximum of 128GB of RAM. You have 8 RAM slots. If each RAM slot was occupied by a 16 GB RAM module you would have 128GB of RAM. Thus you can have 16GB RAM modules per slot.

i forgot how much i paid for it, but i got it as a combo, i haven't had any problem with it,

160 dollars is too much for a 16gb stick of ram, im going to have to keep waiting, hopefully next year they will go down in price

Well i gave in and bought 1x16gb stick

200 bucks later.. im broke

but my computer is fast!

got 6 virtual machines at once , almost hit 32gb

im good for a couple more years!
