Selling my laptops - how do I delete all info please?

Hi everyone,

I have two laptops

One is worth about £200 on ebay and the other is £120

I am really in need of the money now and I have no choice but to let them go, however I'm worried that people can access my personal information on them?

I have had software on there that has my personal information and I deleted this through uninstalling it, but I'm worried that someone could still find this info and also all my browsing history I've deleted (a lot of business things etc on there) that is important it doesn't get into the wrong hands.

What can I do to ensure that there's no trace of any info on my laptops? like it's new?

Thanks everyone :)

one laptops on vista the other windows 7

If I take the hardrives out and the new buyer buys the laptop and installs his own hardrive will there be any info? thanks :)

Do a restore (aka reinstall Windows), but be sure to use a drive wiping program. They will either render the data intelligible, or will do a very secure delete. But yes, if you remove the hard drive, your info will stay on the hard drive and not go with the computer. This, however, will likely bring down the amount of money you will get for the laptop if you sell it.

thanks everyone for all your great answers :) I decided to keep my hardrives and sell the laptops without, I just taken them out and it was so simple! one screw and it pops out :)

Sorry I didn't mean to post two similar threads, I really don't know a lot about computers and wasn't sure if they were related thanks again :)
