Sempron compared to Athlon XP

I've got a motherboard with socket A. As far as I know, the only socket A processors I can get (in Sweden at least) are AMD Athlon XP and Sempron. I had an Athlon XP 2600+, but it seems it's broken due to some strange events (I'm not sure yet though, but might as well ask this).

Would a Sempron compare to the Athlon XP? I can't find any Semprons with the same Ghz as the XP.
Or are there maybe any other socket A cpus?

Yeah, found a 2.0 Ghz. And I know it doesn't mean much, but it's much easier to brag with more Ghz. ;)

hehe, he's got a very good point.. It's not easy saying "YA! MY AMD IS BETTER BECAUSE!!" hehehe. I'd rather be able to say "YA! MINES GOT MORE GHZ THEN YOURS!" :-).

And lets face it half those intel guys dont believe us anyhow :(

Because perhaps the most people I deal with dont know how to plug in the toaster so when they see a number higher then the other they tend to think the higher number is faster ;-).. Sad but it's oh so true :-(.

AMD AthlonXP 1500 vs Intel Pentium4-560 .... :D
 
I like my Athlon. It works, so the whole thread is really pointless. But yeah, even a "skilled" computer store owner thinks a Pentium is better than AMD just because it's got high numbers. My computer farts at the ones he build. :D
 
Athlon XP-M = Greater Cache/more overclocking potential/less voltage/cheaper

The cache depends on what ru comparing it to and the the OC potential is dampened by [a] the fact that Mobile OCs areant a earthshattering amount more than the desktop chip and the mobile runs on a 266MHZ Bus :)

any of the semprons...i should have stated. most specifically the 2800+. (seems to be popular)

it's not the overclocking that's "earthshattering" it's the voltage...sure you might get 2.6-2.7v with the desktop version...but not on 1.7-.8v.

Yeah but the point is to get the OC ... if you get it then you get it :) (Winning's winning. Doesnt matter wheather its by a foot or a mile...") :P

hmm..i guess there's logic to that. but if the desktop chip dies a year b4 the mobile does cuz it was running 2.0v 24/7...i'd say the mobile won:) lol. just depends on the way you look at it.

Yes but you cant predict that the desktop/mobile chip will die or not so thats a m00t point :)

yah...the mobile might fry a week after overclocking lol. all about luck of the draw.
