sempron or celeron?

i was wondering how much of a diferance there is between a 1.3ghz intel celeron m processor 350 to a 1.8ghz amd sempron processor 3000+

i know i've already posted a similar issue but now i'm debating on if theres really that much of a differance in celerons or semprons. After researching a little (aka google :) ), seems like sempron is AMD's version of intel celeron. thanks for all your help with this guys.

web browsing, messaging, maybe some movie editing, movie watching, maybe some games(vice city, sims2, driver 3), word and excel and all that stuff, and maybe some web site editing. thats what i'll be doing

i would say the sempron. and yes, your right, semprons do seem to be the AMD equivilant to celerons. however the 2800+ are actually decent processors

I'm not sre i understand your wusetion fully, Do you mean would more ram or a higherspeed CPU be better? or do you mean, if i get more ram, would i evennotice a difference if a nigher speed CPU?

For the first one DDR or SD RAM? for the 2ed question if thats what you were asking, yes.

i'm asking that if i had 512 mb or maybe 768 mb (PC2100 (266Mhz) DDR-SDRAM) on my computer with either of those processors, lets say the celeron for now, will you notice that much more of a lag than if i had a sempron?

for web browsing, messaging, movie wathing you be fine with either one.

The sempron has a clear advantage over the celron. espcially if you go skt 754 which is highly recommended since the cost difference between skt A and skt 754 is small. even the skt A sempron 2800+ did better then a celeron 2.6ghz. Now on the other hand the celron D 2.6ghz is equal with the sempron 2800+. prices or relative and depends on where you go but if you look at newegg a skt 754 sempron 2800+ $84 and a 2.66ghz celron D $88. The skt 754 sempron 2800+ should do a little better then the skt A 2800+ especially in the next catagory gaming.

The sempron 2800+ skt A and celron D 2.8ghz are about equal in this example. The onboard memory on the skt 754 version will most likly cause it to be a bit better.

In conclusion if the prices are close togeather I would get a sempron over a celeron D. I would definally pick the sempron and I think you would notice a difference in games and movie editing between a sempron and a celron none D.

My recommendation is to go with a skt 754 sempron.

those charts are all very helpful, except for the fact that the sempron processor i want runs at 1.8 and the celeron runs at 1.3. All the processors on that chart are above 2. Might i mention this is a laptop, so i'm not expecting the speee of a desktop.

i would go with the sempron, partly because its faster (and if what i've heard it correct, the 2800+ is equivilant to a 2.8Ghz intel) so i would go with the sempron. Now if it was a sempron vs a p4...that would be a different story.

given the clock differecnes i dont see why theres a question as to what to get? :)

The Sempron 2800 Runs at 2ghz ..not 2.8ghz ...

^^^^

He is right. It should be equivalent to a 2.8Ghz Celeron (rough estimate). Obviously I know that the Sempron does not run at 2.8Ghz but it does not need to, because it is more efficient.
