Hi,

I just wanted to know if the Sempron processors are actualy and good and if they are a cheaper version of an Athlon?
I have a AMD Sempron 2800+ 2Ghz

Only im just a bit confused on how powerfull my cpu actualy is as people have told me that the Sempron 2800+ series runs the equivilent to a 2.8Ghz Cpu?

Dont get me wrong i actualy realy like my Sempron,It hasent let me down gamewise yet.

Please could someone tell me a little more info about the Sempron processor i havea as when i look on google about them it tells you all technical stuff that i just dont understand:rolleyes:
Thanks

Well i have the sempron in my other pc, and it runs great! I can play games perfectly (not as good as my A64, but very good for the price). If you wanted to find out the equivilance to an Intel, the sempron 2800+ would be around a 2.8Ghz Celeron, however its hard to compare the 2 chips together since one is for gaming and the other isnt. IMO, the Sempron is the best cpu that you cna get if your on a budget.

sempron is basically a crippled amd64 w/ half the cache disabled. Your cpu is a decent budget cpu and it should game pretty well for its price.

Yeah, they are nice processors for just basic stuff, much better than Celerons! My laptop uses one, and I run it at 800MHz to keep heat down and the battery life up. All in all a nice processor

I built a PC for some women with a Sempron 2800+ I slapped an MX440 64mb videocard in it and it played games like Call of Duty 2 fine. I think they are great processors! Now dont get me wrong they arnt for hardcore stuff, but they do well for the average user.

It depeons on which one, is it the socket A or the 754, this can make a HUGE impact? If its the 754 its much better then a celeron i can give you that.

they dont just use a smaller cache, they process slower. its a different chip, sort of like athlon 64 vs athlon XP... they benchmark differently in different apps/ areas.
id definitely go with sempron over celeron though, im sure that the sempron processor is decent... im more of a performance man myself though haha... plus im friggen obsessed with computers... and willing to spend money lol

Thanks for all your replies

I think mine is a Socket A:confused:
I had a choice when buying my comp it was either me getting a Celeron or Sempron or Intel P4 so i chose the Sempron due to it been made by AMD as the last two intel pcs i had were a pile of junk.

socket A is worse FSB, but normally clock higher. basically, its a decent chip id say.
you wont need an upgrade unless youre gaming.

I got a Sempron 3100+ with a CHEAP ECS Motherboard that came for free with the prosseser at Fry's. It works perfectly fine for $89.99 All I do is play BF2 with a 9700PRO that works perfectly fine with decent graphic.

I'm assuming you need a cheap CPU and maybe a GPU so here a link if u wanna get the best bang for the buck off a Grapic card if u gonna build a cheap rig.

AMD's SIG said:
Processor: AMD Sempron 2800+ 2Ghz
I think his sig answers all the question provided amd has his sig correct

Not at 2ghz it isn't, unless OC'd (which i doubt):)
