Ok. My son wants a cheap little PC that can instant message and do homework and a wee bit of gaming. I usually let him game on my rig, but it annoys me that he forgets to turn off AIM. I have most of the parts laid out:
512 MB valueselect RAM
CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive
15" lcd monitor
120 gig hard drive
X-plorer case
cheap generic mouse and keyboard
wireless card
I have yet to choose:
a motherboard
a video card
a processor
I have about 600$ left to spend on these 3 things, what should I get?
I prefer AMD to Intel, but if you convince me Ill get a Celeron.
I want a cheap little AGP card with 128mb RAM, and the mobo doesent really matter to me.
What SHOULD I GET???

$600 is a lot to spend on such a little machine, you could get a rig for a lot cheaper. Any how pick up a Sempron they are a good little chip and edge in front of celeron D's

okay. Ive taken out 200$ so now I have 400$ for a processor, video card, and mobo. Ive put all the other parts in my wish list. My son likes UT2004 and RCT3, but he can take a lot of lag (he cant tell 20 fps is bad). But he is used to game on my rig once a week or two I hope he doesent notice.I wanna get a 3200+ processor and the A8V mobo, and I still cant pick a graphics card. There are so many 180$ choices!!

here are the pics. I will either get the 6800 or the X800 or the 9800XT. Which is better???

Well if you purchase any of those cards then there is not going to be any lag in UT2004... Not sure what RCT3 is. I'd got with the 6800 out of those choices.

UT2004 can run smoothly on my 9200SE video card, out of those choices, id get the 6800.

And sempron is much better then a celeron if you want to do any kind of gaming.
