Send Message over network

Is there any way to send a message over a network without IRC, IM or anything like that.

There was net send but I think that that was taken out with XP SP2.
Is there a replacement that can be enabled?

Are you trying to send it at school or work? Even if net send is still here, it would be blocked anyway, my school automatically blocks it after someone sent network wide messages.

Na, just for a home network (although at school would be handy)
