Sending info online 'anonymously'

Hello all,
I need to send some info across the internet and I'd like to be as anonymous as possible. I know these days it's virtually impossible to secure absolute anonymity. But any ideas on this?
My own very limited thinking suggests using TOR browser or a proxy of some sort to mask my IP address. However I know that is not fool-proof.
Alternatively, I was thinking of using an internet cafe, but they don't seem to exist anymore, at least where I live!
A friend suggested I use something like anonymouse on my laptop from a public wifi spot, but, I believe, that would still leave a trace of my MAC? Now I know MACs can be 'spoofed', but I don't know much about that. Can an individual using his/her own laptop in a wifi public spot actually be traced by their laptop's MAC? I'm not sure.
This sort of stuff is above my pay-grade, TBH! I can barely turn laptop on and do basic stuff! I'm pretty low-tech, so any, simple-to-follow advice appreciated!
Just to clarify, there's nothing sinister involved here. I'd just prefer to remain anonymous when I send the info.

Discussion of hiding your identification (IP, mac address, etc.) is against the rules of our forum.
