Change your email password, thats all you need to do. You may want to create a better password by using special symbols, combination of upper and lower case letters.

Hey John, just a quick question: Could it be from a malware? I've always thought some malware on a computer could do that (retrieve password and email address and access it). In that case changing the password would only delay the mass email bomb...

There is a very slim chance it could be. I mean my hotmail and yahoo accounts have been hacked so many times its pathetic and I really don't use them so I know my issue isn't being malware related. I really think these people just use a program that keeps entering passwords until it is correct. This email password hacking is fairly common now.

Hi - you might want to think about switching over to Gmail too. If you use all of their security features (strong password, two factor authentication with your phone, forced HTTPS browser setting), it's WAY less likely that someone will hack your password.

Here's two other possibilities:

(1) Was your email password the same as you use for other sites? It's much more likely that there was a hack on some other site that had your email address and your password, and if it was the same password, they could just log right in to your account.

(2) Did you log into your email from a coffee shop or a public computer (like a library)? Someone could have gotten your info there.

Good luck hope that helps.

Hey, I think you overlooked my post, I don't have any problem :). I know a few things about computer malware and stuff so I know how to keep my accounts safe, and yes I use Gmail :).

Cheers!

So far my email receiving and sending has been blocked. have to wait 24 to 48 hrs now.
It happened about 7 or 8 yrs ago and from what ive seen it is common. I thought it was from my computer. Now im guessing it could be from a app on my android. I only have a few though. And i look at feedback and how many have downloaded and installed it.
still pending though.
