Hi guys... idk how this happened, but apparently I'm sending out email to all the contacts in my email... you know the typical spam mails with some weird attachment and a weird link, probably a virus obviously.

I already scanned my computer, well both of my laptops that I use and check my email on, and sadly no virus or malware was found. I do not visit suspicious sites or download illegal nor untrusted software or files.

I want to know what I can do to stop sending these mails.

Also unfortunately I'm receiving the same sort of emails, with links and attachments, I always mark them as pishing mails i think its called. I can't figure out how to stop this madness.

Please help me out guys.

will that fix both the sending and receiving those emails? or just the sending ones?

Only the sent items. For the past 6 months or so a lot of yahoo and hotmail account passwords have been hacked and spam emails have been sent out. All you need to do is change your password and the spam emails being sent out will stop until the next time your password gets hacked. My hotmail password was hacked a week ago and I don't even use that account.

Get a new account, move any emails you need to save along with it. If you think it could be something on your computer, which judging by what you said it might not be, but if it is you could do a fresh install of your os on a new hard drive.

A good strategy to prevent this sort of this is to keep your email password different than any other password you used. Actually, ideally you would want every password for every account you have to be different, but that would be pretty hard to keep track of.

The reasoning behind this is that typically the email accounts themselves are not the ones getting "hacked". Hackers go after less secure sites (forums are a good example) in order to obtain passwords and email addresses, and they then use those passwords to try and log into the email accounts in the hope that they use the same passwords.

Is your PC actually sending the emails? If someone has your email address, can't they can send emails with your address from any location? They would need to have hacked your account to get your contacts list. However, if they spammed everybody it would simply appear the list was hacked. My ISP may have got the same thing but was rejected as spam and I don't know who you are anyway.

I changed the password, and apparently no emails have been sent out. However I still receive spam emails, is there any way whatsoever to stop this?

Thank you all for the replies.

You can't stop spam emails once they start. The only way to stop getting them is to create a new email address and don't give it out to websites.

Happened to one of mine as well and I only ever use it for MSN messenger. I didn't bother changing it though, I only ever used it to sign up to websites that didn't see trustworthy.

and even then you're going to get some. I have one setup that I only use for online purchases and banking, and since I made it I've only used it for Wachovia and Netflix and I still get tons of fake Blizzard emails for WoW account recovery.
