Seperate Network Firewall

So heres my problem:
The people I share my internet connection with require a high level of security from the internet modem, but since I am a gamer I need those to be turned off. Getting a second phone line into the house is not a possibility. I was wondering whether there was a device external to the modem that could replace the inbuilt security features of a modem?

Depends, it's down to the versatility of your firewall. Many basic firewalls can forward ports to a specific device on the private network whilst keeping the same port moderated/blocked for the other nodes on the network.

What modem are you currently using? Also if the network has nodes/computers that require high security then I strongly suggest they turn the modem into a passive node and put in place a dedicated firewall.
