serial port problems

not sure if this is were this post should go.. but i figured id try..

so i built an eeprom reader that uses the serial port.. plugged it in and then i figured out that my computer is not finding the port.. how would i go about fixing this?

You said the PC IS NOT finding the port then the port maybe damaged, if you did plug another device in it and it works probably it's not seeing your eeprom reader.

dude you don't need drivers for a serial port, you need drivers only if the connecting devices can't be recognize

i dont think the port is broken since this would be the first time iv ever used it...

when i try to read my eeprom it says communication port not available (-16)

i forgot to add that i had recently replaced the hdd and not everything that my computer used to have is recognized
