series of beeps, is this a diagnostic code?

my dell desktop is making a series of beeps when i turn it on,is th3 # of beeps have any relevance to a specific problem? 5,1,2,3...

yes.. depending on you motherboard each number of beeps will mean a differnt thing.. find the MB type then put it into google with bois code beeps and you generly find how many beeps mean what

that fixed it, thanx john your a real help! can u explain how you figured that out? is there list of these codes I can obtain?
also i noticed that 2 of the 4 cards in this computer are like blank ram cards, there is no chips embedded on them, are these just spacers? do they serve a purpose? could i remove them?

You have rdram in that machine and I believe they are just spacers so that the slots are just populated. With rdram you need to use the memory in pairs as one stick won't work. Like I said before, they don't even make rdram anymore and unless you can find it on ebay it will be expensive for such a small amount of memory increase.
