Serious Error Due to GPU

I just woke up to my computer unexpectedly restarting, again  , this time however, windows informed me that it just recovered from a serious error. So I report the error to Microsoft, and it redirects me to a page that has solutions. The first solution, install the latest video card drivers, which I just did last night. The second, turn down hardware acceleration. I did that for about 5 minutes until full screen on realplayer looked like garbage. Has my video card played its last game of San Andreas? Would reformatting the HD and starting from scratch maybe save the day? Please help....

Within 3 seconds of XP popping up the welcome screen the computer will restart. It only happens when the computer has been off for 4 or more hours then get turned on. It will restart, then run windows fine. I am gonna download the latest driver that came out on friday, then run 3dmark.
