serious issue with drives

okay, i attempted to undate to SP3, but it went terrible, and i just decided to do a clean install with sp3. it worked fine, except i cant access any drives that are on my computer. everytime i click on one under my computer, it says

M:\resycled\boot.com is not a valid Win32 application.

what happened? i really need to be able to access my drives, cause my second harddrive has all my info that i saved to it before i did the clean install.

i found that i can access the files by right clicking and clicking explore...but i'd still like to know why its acting this way

its virus or worm. Do a antivirus scan. Then show hidden files including system files and find file autorun.inf and delete it. Right click at the harddisk icon, select properties>tools click check now in error checking box.

you believe its a virus? even though i just did a clean install of windows?

and i searched all hidden and system files and i found several autorun files..is there a certain one i'm looking for? because they are all for certain programs

What have you executed since the new install of Windows?

since i first did, i installed maxtor software for the harddrive, wireless driver, sound driver, and sisoftware sandra...but, the very first thing i did was try to open this drive, and i got this error. i mean, i suppose its entirely possible that there was a virus in the drive that was being quarantined by my security on my last install which i dont have now...

It's possible but I doubt that it might be a virus/worm.

It sounds like an autorun file on your M:\ causing the problem. Because when you double-click a drive it runs an available autorun.bat and if one is not present it then allows you to explore the root of the drive.

i've deleted all autorun files that i have and it doesnt do anything.

okay, i've found the file that the drives are trying to open. but how can i configure them to not do that?
