serious problems with my com, please help!

Ok today when i booted up my machine and logged on, the taskbar, start button & desktop icons were unclickable and i couldn't do anything. The clock on the bottom right hand side was frozen and the icons next to it wouldn't load up which meant i had to press the shutdown switch and booted it up for a second time and it was doing exactly the same thing again. A third time i switched the computer off by the plug and rebooted it that way (i know that could make things worst) but it's somehow fixed the problem. I get the impression it's some sort of virus but what do you think could be the problem and how can i fix it from happening again? Will scan my computer now!
 
if u hav created restore points , use them now
first boot into safe mode if ur still finding difficulty booting into normal mode
thr is also a possibility tht u hav got a malware/virus on ur pc
scan frm the safe mode
 
i dunno if it's just me but i've NEVER successfully removed anythig with Spybot....or Adaware...but i hear them recommended all the time....

I do however highly recommend Stinger....and also try hijackthis
