Would it be possible to use a server computer as a normal computer?
and whats the difference?

:P

sorry for my stupid Question

Servers can have hotswappable hard drives, usually have integrated graphics instead of a standard graphics card, redundant power supplies, some can have dual processor slots, etc. It all depends on what your looking at using as a standard workstation.

dual processors wow, so that'd be ultra fast then, could it be used as a computer? for like video editing, gaming....ect :P

it could be used like that, but they are not built for that kind of usage. in other words, you would have two processors with four cores each, only one processor would be active in cod4, and only 2 cores of that processor would be active.

Not necessilarly, for gaming and whatnot you would want something like the rigs many of us have custom built here on computerforum, a decent graphics card and a fast processor, with a decent mobo and ram.

i understand but what im saying is like, they can hold an increadible amount of ram + 2 processors and loads of hdd's and im sure u can add a graphics card?

Possibly, it all depends on whether it has a pci-e slot, and as far as it is concered for gaming again, it would.. suck, as servers dont support things such as SLI or crossfire.

Congratz, well was just an idea in my head, like once i was thinking would it be possible to connect two motherboards to gether to create an ultra fast computer haha XD

If im not mistaken though, there are some server motherboard such as skulltrail you could use, but your best off just going for something core i7 for the best performance;)

Server rigs (i.e. those with dual or quad socket's) are not meant to be gaming machines. Yes they can hold up to atleast 32GB or ram, but its waaaaay too overkill for gaming.

yh i geuss, another quick question, my dad has a advent q6003: 6gb ram, q8200 with 640gb hdd, just wanted to know, i got another mobo could i just move everything onto that?

If the motherboard supports the same type of RAM, has the same socket as the q8200 then yes.

Servers are not meant to be end user machines by the nature of their design. Who in their right mind would want a rack mount server with its super loud blaring fans sitting on their desk?

yes you could, like the above post said, if the memory and processor are the same type as your new motherboard. also, you would have to buy your own copy of windows, since last time i checked, installing a new motherboard required a reinstall (or repair, i cant remember atm)
