Server Computer

There wasn't a section about servers here on the forums so I decided this was the next best place to ask.

I know very little about servers (next to nothing). But I really want to expand my knowledge. I was thinking about taking an old computer (1GHz, 1GB RAM, 20GB HD) and loading Windows Server 2003 onto it. I would hook it up to my home network and just tinker with it. That way I could learn about DNS, IP Addresses, networked drives, and everything else.

Is this a good way to approach it? Or is there maybe a better way to go about it?

That's how I started off. I would also recommend looking into active directory.

Haha, i would love to explane but I think wiki would do a much better job.

Edit:

Just some highlights:
90% of today's companies use AD
Allows users to login to computers.
Allows admins to limit the usability of the desktop through group policy
