I need a hd that is at least 120 gbs and can run continuosly for a year or so w/o stopping, but maybe going into standby. 1200 rpms min. help.

that's not a real constraint. I like seagate drives and they have plenty at 120GB+

1200 rpms? they dont make those its 7 200, 10 000 , 15 000
the 10 000 are pretty expensive duno if ive seen a 120g one
the 15 000 are ridiculusly expensive

i suggest a 7200 rpm

sure, the thing that kills HDDs most is power surges not useage
