Server Os

That is by far opinoin, First off you need to choose Window's Or Linix, If you choose windows, well there is pretty much only one choice of Window's Server 2003, and there are plenty of Linux choices but I dont know to much about them all so I won't comment on those.
 
FreeBSD, without question.

Wonder why? Look at the leading uptimes, and take a look at http://people.freebsd.org/~murray/bsd_flier.html . As you read that remember that windows server 2003 is based off windows 2000 ;) .

I'm not a microsoft basher. I believe microsoft makes great products. Still, for serving, FreeBSD beats the hell out of anything you throw at it.
