Server:Remote Desktop

i'm not very good with networking, so i'm going to ask some very basic questions.

if i set up a server(Windows Home Server), can i connect to it with remote desktop all the time, and from ever computer running XP or vista on my network?? I want to connect to the server at the computer startup, so i can logon to my user account no matter which computer i'm on.

Is this possible?

Definitely. You may have to enable a couple of services. I beta tested WHS and that's how I accessed it, through RDC.

With roaming user profiles, how is the performance? I want to connect to my user profile on the server from all computers on my network, but will the connections(wireless) bottleneck the performance?

Man, unless you have a need for roaming profiles you might want to reconsider. I had a client that used them. The average profile can hit 300MB, and unless you're running gigabit it's going to be painful. Even then it takes a couple of minutes to sync every time you log in.

Besides the slow syncing, how was the performance of the profile under normal operation? All i wanted was to be able to access all my setting, files, and programs from ever computer on my network.

Once it's downloaded, it's fine. Until then you can go make a sandwich, watch a movie, have a beer and come back just as your desktop comes up on the screen. I'm not kidding, it's excruciating.

alright, so it doesn't matter if the server and receiving computers are high performance, and if the network capabilities are the fastest?
