I am wanting to run Windows Server 2003 at my house for testing and training purposes. I would like it to be powerfull enough to possibly run 3-4 virtual machines at the same time (like server 2003 and a few xp or vista clients)

So, what type of server do you guys think would work good for this?

What is the difference between a blade server and others?

Whats types of resources (ram, proccesors) do you guys and gals think I would need?

There is the possibility that I will eventually use this server to run my ftp and web sites.

Please let me know your opinions on this subject.

For something like that you will need a decent processor a dual core would be good and alot of ram. For Vista you will need 512 for each VM and with XP you can get away with 128mb of ram. VMs need to have physical ram available for each running VM. So if you plain to run 4 VMs at once then you will need to make sure you have the ram.

Thanks for the reply.

The one I am looking at is an IBM with quad 1.5 mhz processors and 4 gb of ram. Do you think this would work?

That will do just fine. I would bet you will be able to run all 4 VMs and have some resources left over.
