I was wondering whenever they come out with a service pack for Vista that it would resolve video game issues. A lot of games that I try and play are compatible with my computer but still have glitches whenever I try and play them. I recently installed Max Payne and when I go to start playing it, it comes up with a message that it encounters a ploblem and has to shut down. I didn't know if the service pack with help?

it will have alot of fixes but it doesnt come out untill 2008, have you tried running the game in compatability mode?

Take a look at the video and sound drivers first. With Vista being the new MS glory the hardware manufacturers are typically lagging behind on having good working drivers onhand. But even with XP and a new video or sound card now available you can loads of fun just trying to get something working right.

The tune on Vista's SP1 keeping changing every month it seems. First the beta was to be out in June then mid July now supposedly out in September with the final in Q1 2008? http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/08/29/Vista-SP1-due-in-Q1-2008-beta-in-September_1.html

i have vista sp1 beta, no it does not seem to help too much. Also it made one of my games stop working. but for compadability mode, right click preferences, compadability, xp sp2. see it that works

If you have the beta version that probably contains the total amount of updates already released at the MS update site rolled into one bundle up until that point. It wasn't a big surprise to see the final version's release date pushed back to 2008 since XP's SP1 came out a full year later for that version.

The Vista compatibility mode works very much the same way you saw it in XP like nrianmay27 explained there. If you can a program to run on Vista or one older then XP then you would use this option if you were seeing any problems. For the most part if something won't install that won't help any however.
